January’s workshop started off as one focused on goal-setting, since helping my clients be as successful as possible with their New Year aspirations. We discussed the meaning behind S.M.A.R.T. goals, which I will cover in a future blog post for those of you who would like to make goals that can actually be accomplished. However, this post is going to be what came out of that workshop, which had very little to do with goal-setting after all.
I discovered a common theme that seems to be going through each of my workshops. The theme of control. And not a control or lack thereof over food, itself. Rather, it’s a lack of control over the choices my clients want to make due to their spouses. Oftentimes one half of the couple has no choice over what the couple or family is having for dinner. Or their spouse controls what they eat when they’re at home or makes comments when they go out. This leads to them making bad choices when they’re on their own “because they can.”
Once I realized what the real concerns of my clients were, I knew what my February workshop needed to be. Therefore, this Sunday’s February workshop is going to be all about She/He Won’t Let Me… and to learn to share control with your spouse, or significant other, or parents or whoever else you feel has control over what you eat, when you eat, how you eat, etc.
I’d love to hear some comments or suggestions from you guys as to whether you’ve run into this issue, and also if you have, how you’ve worked it through. And if you’re available, come to Be Fit Anywhere, 2 Clerico Lane, Suite 212, Hillsborough, NJ this Sunday from 11:30-1:00. With the SuperBowl being later in the day, now’s a great time to come up with a plan on how everyone can be satisfied at the party!
